Climbing Ruth Mountain
August 12-13, 2006

A miscommunication during the crucial pre-trip planning left us without a tent. So we bought this tarp at an auto parts store in Burlington and made due.

The beginning of a lovely day as we start across the arm to Ruth.

Mount Baker's glaciated northeast face as seen from Ruth Arm.

Eric heads along Ruth Arm, eager to hit the higher slopes.

Jill gets geared up for her first-ever roped glacier crossing.

The sunny slopes of Ruth Peak's glacier.

Eric is ready to go -- he waits for Andrew and Jill to lead out on the rope.

Eric brings up the rear as we head up the the glacier.

Andrew stands fearlessly on the summit of Ruth. Behind him is Mount Shuksan and the Nooksack Cirque.

Jill stands on the summit, equally fearless. Shukan and Baker behind.

The view south to Icy Peak, Ruth Peak's sister mountain.

Back down off the glacier, Jill seems to be having a wonderful summer day in the mountains.

Eric descending across Ruth Arm, below him is the valley we hiked up to our camp below Hannegan Pass.

A last look back at the broken glaciers of Mount Shuksan.
