Around eastern Oregon
June 24 - July 4, 2006

Our bug-infested campsite at Little Lava Lake.

A view of Fort Rock from the highway.

Looking out from the trails within Fort Rock to the surrounding landscape.

A Safeway sign in Lakeview reminds us that we are not in Seattle.

From the Warner Wetlands, where we stopped for a hot lunch, the view up toward the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge.

Looking back down on the Warner Wetlands from the road leading up into the refuge.

One of the refuge's namesake creatures.

The refuge's headquarters.

Outside the historic and iconic Frenchglen Hotel.

Jill found is extremely difficult to stay awake on the lawn outside the Frenchglen Hotel.

In the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, we watched an electrical storm roll across the sage desert. The refuge is located in the Donner Und Blitzen Valley, which seemed an appropriate name.

The Kam Wah Chung Historical Museum in John Day. Absolutely fascinating.

Jill enjoys the little town of Fossil, where you can actually dig fossils out behind the high school.

Jill's biggest fossil find of the day.
