Jill takes a closer look at some water birds in the evening. Could it be... the snowy plover?

Birding may not look like hard work, but it is. Here Jill surveys the pond behind the Summer Lake Lodge, where we stayed. It helps to have a glass of wine.

In a barn on the refuge we discovered a trio of great-horned owls. Here's one peering down from the rafters.

A view of the Summer Lake Refuge with the Winter Ridge rising up to the west. You can see the owl-filled barn in the distance.

Eric takes in the early morning view from the Schoolhouse Viewing Blind.

In the morning, the swallows go on a rampage trying to catch their breakfast.
