New Patio

Built: June 17-18, 2006

In one breakneck weekend we built our 210 square foot brick patio. (Okay, we'd already cut up the sod, laid down edging and sheeting, and flattened the base.) We both agreed that there is absolutely zero chance it would have happened if Eric's dad, John, had not wanted to celebrate his retirement by slaving for hours on Saturday. Let me state that again: zero chance. He gets the credit for the design, building technique, and possibly staving off a patio-related divorce.

John and Jill try to puzzle out the building method in the early stages of the project on Saturday morning.

Flash forward to Sunday morning and Eric is laying down the final swath of bricks. Unfortunately, his muscles are now too sore to allow him to get up out of the position he's in now.

The patio in all its glory (notice the iron torch in the foreground -- white elephant gifts are good for something after all).

Here's a look at the pattern -- sort of a modified parquet style.

George viciously claims the patio as his private territory.

For no real reason at all, a photo of George beside the patio.

George surrenders. Viciously.
