Methow Valley

May 28 - 30, 2005

There's simply too much neat stuff to do in the Methow Valley. We spent part of a day doing a little exploring and looking for new birds. We were fairly successful--adding 5 new birds to Jill's life list that day. At the Big Valley Wildlife Area we saw our first red-naped sapsucker. Near the suspension bridge on the Methow Valley Sports Trail we saw several western tanagers (new to us last weekend) and also finally a definitive identification of the calliope hummingbird. Hiking along the West Fork Methow River Trail, we picked up a half dozen pine siskins. Then, lounging at Klipchuck Campground, we saw three evening grosbeaks, a yellow warbler, and another calliope without even having to set down our beers.
