Scrambling South Ingalls Peak
July 1, 2007
We took a one day scrambling trip up to South Ingalls Peak with Andrew. This is about as perfect as the Northwest mountains get: warm summer day, bluebird skies, stunning scenery, and a sense that all is right with the world. Also, goats.
Just below Ingalls Pass we encountered a herd of perhaps 8 mountain goats, including this fellow.
And also this juvenile.
Jill likes the goats.
Here's the baby of the herd with its momma. Behind them is Headlight Basin, the approach to Ingalls.
A view across Headlight Basin to South and North Ingalls. Our objective, the south peak, is on the left.
Looking back out of the basin at Mount Stuart.
Eric and Andrew are most of the way up the snow-filled gullies to the saddle between North and South Ingalls.
Eric ascends the final snow slope to the summit.
As if things needed to get any better, we treated ourselves to some nice slushy glissading on the way back down from the saddle between South Ingalls and Fortune Peaks.
Almost back to the pass, we encountered this big male who wasn't really too interested in getting off the trail.

He was a lot more interested in posing for a photo shoot.
