Scrambling Crystal Peak
October 21, 2006
We took a lovely hike/scramble at Mount Rainier National Park with Brian and Hannah, following the trail up to Crystal Lake where we had lunch. From there we traveled cross-country and scrambled up the back (east) side of Crystal Peak on talus slopes to the summit. After a long break there we descended by following the trail on the west side of Crystal, returning to the main trail and then back to the car. Terrific loop.

The view from our lunch spot at Crystal Lake, looking west to Crystal Peak and our scrambling route.

From the summit ridge, looking back east to the parkland that contains the Crystal Lakes; the ridge on the horizon forms the boundary between the national park and the William O. Douglas Wilderness.

The view southwest from the summit ridge. Mount Rainier's Emmons Glacier (and a few others) and the White River.

Jill enjoys the October sunshine on our hike back down.
