Spring was slow to arrive this year, as you can see from the photo below.

Hawaii

I'm finally starting to get some photos posted of our mid-winter trip to the Big Island of Hawaii.

Here's the first batch:

And here's a look at Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park, better known as the Place of Refuge.

Fall Hiking

In mid-October, we took a lovely autumn dayhike with Elliot and Jen -- and Ozo -- out the PCT: Hiking Kendall Katwalk.

But the season's main event was our three-day backpacking trip in Olympic National Park to the aptly-named Enchanted Valley. Photos are here:

We spent some much-needed time on the trail. We finally were converted to the cult of the larches, seeing them in their full autumn glory for the first time. And we were there for the change of the season.

Glacier Peak (belated)

It only took me six weeks, but I finally have photos posted of our five day backpacking trip at the end of August through the eastern Glacier Peak Wilderness.

Backpacking the Glacier Peak Wilderness

Warning: this was an unusually scenic trip, so be prepared for lots of photos. This one was taken in the Upper Lyman Lakes area -- an area that was completely deserted thanks to the Domke Lake Fire (which shut off access from Holden Village) and the big winter floods (which shut off all the west-side access roads and trails).

Cashmere

At last, some photos from our overnight trip with Brian and Hannah. We spent the night at Lake Caroline and scrambled Cashmere Mountain the next day. We were even treated to a little bit of snow in August.

Little Annapurna

Alrighty, some new photos from our monster 1 day trip into the Upper Enchantment Lakes en route to the summit of Little Annapurna. This one pretty much put is into a coma on Sunday.

This is a photo of one of the Enchantments, not of Little Annapurna, which is much mellower than these peaks.

Goat Rocks

At long last, some new photos from our 3 day trip into the Goat Rocks Wilderness. We managed to stand on top of Old Snowy, Ives Peak, and a smaller unnamed summit. We also had the good fortune to meet "Tattoo Joe," who by July 27 was nearly to Mount Rainier en route to breaking the record for the fastest hike from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail. We were daunted.
