Day 4: A very long day
By Eric
Today was a very long day. Never ones to linger long in one place, we started our adventure by leaving Kuala Lumpur--or KL--by afternoon bus. After a somewhat culture-shock-inducing tour of the city, open air lunch at some food stalls, and a gratuitous monorail ride, we left for the jungle. It was a long trip to the small outpost town of Jerantut, from where we could catch transport the next day up-river to the national park.
To put it mildly, we didn't yet have our travel legs. Upon disembarking from the bus we promptly walked in the complete opposite direction from our hotel and spent 45 minutes finding our hotel that was may 3 minutes from the station. We finally arrived in a tropical downpour and checked into a room that was really and truly lousy--it was, in fact, one of the worst rooms (but not the worst) that we stayed in on the entire trip. We choked down a nearly inedible dinner at the hotel and figured out how to get the hell out of dodge the next morning.
