UW Lab Rat
This summer Eric offered up our beloved boy as a University of Washington lab rat. I’m told no babies were harmed in the process, but the experience does make for hilarious photos.
First time with the electrode hat this August

Second round with the hat earlier this month

[Eric explains: The electrode hats monitor brain activity in response to different kinds of stimuli. Look, I was on sabbatical with time to kill. Enrolling Sam in the control group of an important study on autism got me out of the house. Plus, they paid $20 per session -- and daddy needs beer money!]
Late summer hiking
Plus, our Flickr site has a bunch more photos of other outings: the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, Carkeek Park, Sam’s first trip to a swimming pool, and — the creme de la creme — Sam wearing an electrode hat. (He participated in a cognitive science study at the University of Washington.)
A July Scramble
Jill’s mom watched Sam for a day, so we escaped for our first real mountain adventure together since we’ve been parents. And it was awesome.
Scrambling Tinkham and Abiel Peaks

Summer of Sam: June
Adventuring is a bit different now that there are three of us. Still, we managed to work in a few pretty good ones during June, when all of us had the entire month off from work.

Early Season Scrambles
Life with Sam hasn’t allowed for too much time in the mountains, but Eric has managed to squeeze in a couple of summits. (A blessing that is entirely due to Jill’s good graces!)
Scrambling Mount Curtis Gilbert

Always, there are many more pictures of Sam over at our Flickr site.
Spring Walks
It’s been an astonishingly nice spring this year and the three of us have done a lot of walking recently, but it’s mostly around the nearby neighborhoods — and it’s mostly gone un-photographed. Nevertheless, here are two of the more interesting walks we’ve taken:
Of course, there are many more pictures of Sam over at our Flickr site.

In April, the cherry blossoms falls like snow all along our block. Here’s the edge of our sidewalk.
Rest In Peace, George
On a soft spring evening at 8 p.m., George Simmons left us.
George was a trusted friend and companion for 13 years, as well as a left-wing organizer of neighborhood cats. We miss him so much.

More photos of him here, among many other places.
Sam goes to Fort Flagler
Our first real overnight escape, we got away for three nights to the Olympic Peninsula and stumbled into a lovely patch of spring weather: Fort Flagler with Sam.

Sam sees the cherry blossoms
We spent a Saturday afternoon having a picnic lunch in the Humanities quad at the University of Washington. The cherry trees were close to being in full bloom: University of Washington cherry blossoms.

There’s really just no excuse for missing the springtime blossoms.
